Its programs and resources work to support student success, from an approach that values diversity, equity and inclusion and the value that adult learners and student veterans add to the campus community given their diverse identities, life experiences and readiness for academic work. ALVS works to expand students' awareness of the many support resources on campus as well as the importance of adult learner and student veteran engagement in the campus community. ALVS is part of the Division of Student Affairs, specifically one of seven Campus Life Cluster offices that support students at Colorado State University. The mission of ALVS is to support increased academic achievement and holistic development for all adult learners, resulting in graduation from Colorado State University (CSU) and sustainable personal and professional success. ALVS does this through engagement and leadership opportunities, community building and resource facilitation. The Division of Student Affairs (DSA) fosters a campus community that supports students in the development of their unique potential, inspiring them to be active learners, successful graduates, and engaged global citizens. The Division employs approximately 846 full-time and 3440 part-time staff with an annual budget of over $140 million, and as importantly, seeks student affairs professionals of great character, who inspire our students as visionary leaders, and bring with them passion, positivity, and humor to their work and to the campus. Position SummaryThe Director of Adult Learner and Veteran Services (ALVS) is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative Professional position reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Parent and Family Programs. The Director leads the ALVS staff to ensure that the mission of the office is accomplished: increased academic achievement and holistic development for all adult learners and student veterans, resulting in graduation from Colorado State University and sustainable personal and professional success. The Director promotes the university's mission for a just and inclusive campus, assuring all members of the office are dedicated to a value based, student-centered approach that is grounded in diversity, equity and inclusion. ALVS staff is comprised of an ALVS Director, Assistant Director, Coordinator, Accounting support, a Student Affairs in Higher Education Graduate Student, National Director of SALUTE, and student staff and volunteers. Required Job Qualifications
Master's Degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education, Adult Education and/or a related area.
Three years' experience with full-time professional staff recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and building effective teams.
Demonstrated experience with budget development, management, and fiscal reporting.
Personal and professional commitment to diversity and inclusion as demonstrated by persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.
Demonstrated written and presentation skills as evidenced by teaching, professional presentations, workshop facilitation, report writing, and/or professional correspondence.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Terminal degree.
Demonstrated experience advising, counseling, teaching and/or supervising individuals from diverse backgrounds, with consideration for the intersections of gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, adult learner, student veteran, and/or other significant aspects of identity.
Three years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a leadership role developing and evaluating student success programming supporting non-traditional students and underrepresented populations in higher education settings.
Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of adult learner and student veteran populations.
Knowledge of common academic retention, transition, and cultural and career concerns specific to adult learner and student veterans and their support networks.
Demonstrated outreach to and flexibility working with organizations and agencies with distinctly varied missions, goals, and objectives.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state benefits specific to supporting student veterans.
Demonstrated experience fund-raising and working with donors.

Develop and implement ALVS vision, mission, values and strategic goals in alignment with the Division of Student Affairs and University strategic plans, missions, and goals.
Leads decision-making for overall organizational functions (programs and services) and operations of the Adult Learner and Veteran Services Office.
Oversee implementation of programs and services to meet the needs of adult learners, student veterans, and all students (i.e., Adult Learner and Student Veteran Ram Welcome, Veteran 5K Event, Student Parent Week, Orientation, Peer Advising Program, Student Veteran Organization, Student Parent Organization, Pinnacle Adult Learner Organization, Peer Mentor Program, etc.) - with a commitment to an intersectional (i.e., race, gender, sexual orientation, adult learner, student veteran, etc.) and value-based approach.
Hiring authority for 1.5 FTE positions: makes hiring decisions, conducts mid-year and year-end performance evaluations, and makes salary decisions (negotiates hiring salary and determines annual salary increases).
Budget development, management, approval of fiscal action in multiple ALVS accounts including student fee funds ($400+), scholarship and gift funds ($1.7M), and ALVS building bond ($10M); signature Authority for all accounts and equipment/supplies procurement.
Determine allocation of funds for new and existing programs to professional staff, educate and empower professional staff to manage sub accounts.
Serve as an advocate for adult learners and student veterans as appropriate, with a commitment to intersectionality of identities (i.e., race, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability status, etc.) to ensure their needs and concerns, are addressed, inside and outside of the classroom.
Provide leadership for large scale ALVS student events and programs (i.e., Orientation Adult Learner and Student Veteran programs, Adult Learner Week, Student Parent Week, Military Appreciation events, the Elevate Program, etc.).
Lead assessment of ALVS programs and services; analyze data to inform decisions that improve and/or enhance programs and services provided to students.
Implement programs and services with professional and student staff team designed to meet identified needs of adult learners and student veterans.
Counsel, advise and consult with students and student groups (i.e., Student Parent Organization, SALUTE CSU Chapter, Pinnacle Adult Learner Organization, Student Veteran Organization, etc.) regarding personal and programmatic concerns.
Oversee the effective administration of Ram Kids Village, an in-person and virtual programmatic space that provides supervised children's activities to support student parents/guardians.
Contributes to DSA leadership as a member of the Division of Student Affairs Directors Group and Campus Life Cluster Directors Group.
Some evening and weekend hours required based on delivery of department programs, services, and events calendar and to meet the needs of adult learners and student veterans.

Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with multiple university offices and colleagues across campus to support and enhance student success and retention of adult learners and student veterans. Offices/areas include academic departments (e.g., Academic Advancement Center, College of Business, Human Development & Family Studies, College of Liberal Arts, College of Health and Human Sciences, etc.), the Student Resolution Center, Student Case Management, Support and Safety Assessment, Off-Campus Life, Student Diversity Programs and Services, Community for Excellence, Office of Financial Aid, Housing and Dining Services, CSU Health Network, Parent and Family Programs, the Career Center, etc.
Serve as a member of the Campus Life Cluster Directors Group that is comprised of Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life; Student Legal Services; Student Resolution Center; Off-Campus Life; Student Case Management, and Parent and Family Programs.
Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Directors group; attend monthly meetings.
Lead the Adult Learner and Student Veteran Success Committee comprised of representation from ALVS, the Veteran Education Benefits Office, the New Start for Student Veterans Program, Enrollment and Access, the Alumni Association, Athletics, University Communications, the Division of Student Affairs, and other campus and community stakeholders.
Represent the university/ALVS locally, regionally, and nationally (i.e., fundraising events/programs, conferences, community outreach, participation in associations that support adult learners and/or student veterans, etc.).
Assist the community and campus on issues concerning adult learners and student veterans (i.e., housing insecurity, food insecurity, child-care, caregiver support, transportation, mental health, etc.).
Collaborate with the Veterans Educational Benefits Office within the Office of the Registrar to ensure student veterans and dependents are provided information and support to receive and utilize veteran benefits.
Develop and provide training and workshop experiences for campus academic and student service units on a variety of topics related to retention challenges and academic success support for adult learners and student veterans.
Consult with and advise faculty and staff members about specific student and classroom matters, as well as pedagogical practices and resources for adult learners and student veterans.
Work with staff to ensure effective campus coordination and provide academic departments, administrative offices, and registered student organizations a means by which to engage with the campus adult learner and student veteran population.
Respond to and manage student crisis, determines appropriate referrals and follows-up to support student well-being.
Collaborate, as a representative of the university and ALVS with local, state, and federal organizations in program development and implementation (i.e., fundraising events/programs, conferences, community outreach, participation in associations, etc.) that serves adult learner and student veteran population.

Manage organizational functions including facility and equipment use, policy
development and implementation, preparation of reports, publications, and proposal writing for external funding.
Supervise and mentor department personnel to ensure programs and services delivery, supporting the campus-wide strategy and mission of the department.
Support the leadership and effective management of the SALUTE student veteran national honor society program in conjunction with the Student Veteran Association.
Oversee the effective and timely administration of scholarships/awards/grant funding such as the Osher Re-entry Scholarship, The Josh Chapel Scholarship, the Finish Line Scholarship, The Deb Petersen Outstanding Adult Student of the Year Award, Anschutz Project Fund (as it relates to ALVS), the general adult learner fund, and other student funding sources as they are procured, including meeting the scholarship needs of specific students, providing programmatic support to meet the needs of students, and developing/maintaining a strong partnership with the funding agencies, foundations, or individual donors.
Research, identify, and apply appropriate federal requirements for veteran student enrollment, retention and graduation.
Oversee timely and effective completion of the Military Times "Our Best for Vets" annual survey.
Conduct on-going assessment of program effectiveness to improve student success and program outcomes.
Provide support and guidance to university recognized student organizations associated with ALVS and other Associated Students of Colorado State University (ASCSU) student government leaders to advance the ALVS mission and programs for adult learners and student veterans.
Cultivate an effective working relationship with the ASCSU Student Fee Review Board representative assigned to ALVS to prepare for and secure annual student fee funding.
Maintain a partnership with the Collaborative for Student Achievement to develop and support programs, policies, and procedures for ALVS student orientation, transition, retention, and graduation.
Lead regularly scheduled ALVS staff meetings.
Participate in Division of Student Affairs and campus-wide committees for searches, initiatives, events, and programs.
