Level Scope: The Assistant Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with an entry-level academic rank who has demonstrated achievement in the areas of teaching; research, scholarship, or creative activities; institutional and professional service appropriate to the discipline and is eligible for tenure. The Clinical Assistant Professor is a member of the non-tenured faculty with an entry-level rank and primary duties in the area of clinical instruction.
Essential Functions: The tenure-track Assistant Professor position focuses on teaching (60%), research (30%), and service (10%).
The Clinical Assistant Professor position focuses on teaching (60-80%) and service (40-20%), and research is not required.
Both tenure-track Assistant Professor and Clinical Assistant Professor positions will work on-site to develop and teach graduate-level online courses, conduct research if tenure-track, and provide service with a focus on the following areas:
Instructional design Adult learning principles applied to Learning and Development (L&D) practices Learning experience and user experience design Current and future L&D practices and trends Human resources (workforce) development, organization development, or performance improvement Student internships, career advising, outreaching, and networking
Minimum Qualifications: Both tenure-track Assistant Professor and Clinical Assistant Professor candidates are expected to have the following minimum qualifications:
An earned doctorate in instructional design, learning and development (L&D), training and development (T&D), workforce development, human resources development (HRD), organization development (OD), performance improvement (PI), or a related field is required at the time of appointment. (We will consider ABDs, but a selected candidate must possess an earned doctoral degree at the time of appointment.) 1 year experience of teaching courses on principles of adult learning, instructional design, or HRD/OD/PI-related topics, and/or 3 years of working experience in industry as an instructional designer, or L&D, T&D, HRD, OD, PI professional. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Technical savvy to keep up with fast-changing technology-driven and multimedia-based online teaching methods.
Preferred Qualifications:
For both tenure-track Assistant Professor and Clinical Assistant Professor positions:
Developed and taught graduate-level online courses using Canvas. Supervised student projects (e.g., class projects, independent projects, student assistants’ projects). Worked for 5+ years with a combination of experiences teaching graduate level courses and/or working in business, military, government, and/or non profit settings, engineering learning experiences and performance improvement solutions informed by evidence to best address individual, team, and organizational challenges globally. Strong leadership skills.
